Advantages of capturing data to database:
- Database offers much wider space for collecting data than data file / data logger memory. Thus from database is possible to analyse data from longer time than from one *.mss file or one data download from data logger.
- Data from unlimited number of data loggers can be captured in database. This enables to analyze data from more data loggers at the same time. Now data from n channels of data logger A and m channels of data logger B can be displayed in one graph.
- Simple access to data. No need to search for the particular data file *.mss. User simply selects channels from desired data loggers, specifies time interval and viewer gets required data from database.
- Several viewers can view the database at the same time by means of the DBV Database Viewer program.
- Remote access - DBV Database Viewer application can be located on any computer connected to the network with access to PC with database.
- Safety access to data. Users analyzing data do not need direct access to original *.mss files, but only access to database. Furthermore access to database is limited only for reading, hence database is protected against damage by unauthorized person.
Data from data logger can be exported to database by means of MS logger program in three ways:
- Manually, user runs action „Export opened data to database“
- From data downloaded before: It is possible to export to database data of *.mss file (data file of data logger)
- Tool exists for mass export of data from *.mss file in directory
- This enables data simple integration from the whole history of using data logger - Autodownload + data autoexport do database
- Automatic data download from data logger is followed by automatic export of these data to database. (e.g. every day at 2:00 a.m. autodownload and autoexport is performed)
DBV Database Viewer enables among others:
- To select any channel of any Comet device and any time interval for analysis.
- To present data in table and graph - known formats similar to table and graph in optional MS logger program. Presented are analog values, binary states, alarm states, channels named by the user etc.
- To print and export to file of both table and graph. Export is enabled to DBF file or TXT file - for work in MS Excel.
- To save sets of selected channels. This simplifies work with viewer with repeated requests.
System expandability:
- Connection of other data loggers to data acquisition system is very simple. No configuration of database is needed. Only download data from data logger and export to database. System itself creates in database the device and channels in accordance with theirs names and configuration in the data logger. Furthermore the change of channels features, name of channel, adding or removing of channel do not require database configuration. System itself recognize that in data export and generates in database new „virtual“ channels of corresponding properties.

Data from all Comet devices can be gathered in one database: data loggers Sxxxx, Rxxxx, Gxxxx, data loggers MS5, MS6 and Ethernet sensors P85xx, Tx5xx, Hx5xx. - Unlimited number of user can view the database by means of DBV Database Viewer program. Low cost DBV Database Viewers can be bought anytime according to the client need. Thus more viewers can view the database from different points in the network/internet. This universal database viewer enables to display data together from all Comet devices.
System Administration enables i.a.:
- To name/rename devices and channels in database (e.g. “warehouse data logger“).
- To enable/disable devices and channels for viewing.
- To back up the database.
- To erase data - all data from selected channels or data older than specified date.
- To diagnose error states
- To administrate user accounts for access to database. Viewers use for connection to database read-only account. Unauthorized person cannot damage the database.
Hardware and software requirements
- For data acquisition system operation usual office PC with Windows XP/Vista/7 can be used. In case of more complex use (many devices in database or many users viewing the database) using of higher performance server is recommended with operating system Windows Server.
- From third party software it only necessary to install MySQL database server. MySQL is stable and popular freeware database platform.
Installation and system preparation
- Installation of the system is easy. Manual guides installation of all system “step by step“ including the installation of MySQL database server.
- System preparation and administration is performed only by means of Database Administration Utility program. More difficult parts as database creation, user administration, etc. are user friendly thanks user interface of administration utility.
